As technology improves, we are seeing the advantages of modern skin treatment developing at a rapid rate, and every year there seems to be a new anti-ageing skin treatment on the block. Botox has long been the darling of the non-surgical skin rejuvenation process and was soon joined by processes such as dermal fillers and other injectables.
These are still highly popular anti-ageing treatments, and rightly so. However, the newest treatment to be heralded as a success on the non-invasive anti-ageing treatment market is known as skin needling or micro-needling.
So, what exactly is skin-needling, and does it produce the right results?
What is Skin-Needling?
Skin-needling is a process where tiny needles (from 0.5 to 3.0mm) are attached to a machine and rolled across your skin and neck. These needles softly pierce the dermis of your skin, and then this encourages your skin to repair itself.
The fact that needles are piercing your skin can sound a little intimidating, but there’s absolutely nothing to worry about, as they are not even a fraction of the size of normal needles. The process is pretty painless, and won’t damage your skin.
How Does Skin-Needling Work?
When your skin is pierced it goes into repair mode, and this means that it starts to go into an overproduction of collagen and elastin which improves your skin’s elasticity and gives it a firm plump look. It also helps with the texture of your skin, the way it feels and the healing of scars.
What to Expect from a Skin-Needling Treatment
Getting your facial skin rolled over by a machine filled with tiny needles may sound like the worst way to spend your time, but we can guarantee that you won’t feel any pain throughout the procedure. This is because we will anesthetise your skin with topical cream before we even begin.
While the procedure seems pretty drastic, there is actually not much downtime, and depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you should only experience redness, or blotchiness for a few hours or up to one day. This makes it an incredibly non-invasive and quick treatment.
How Often Do You Need Skin-Needling
How many treatments you get and how often you get them is entirely dependent on the condition of your skin, but on average you will need around 3-5 treatments in a period of around 4-6 weeks. After the initial treatment is done, you can then have a top up around every six months or use an at-home device in between.
When Can You Expect to See Results?
Boosting collagen and elastin in the dermis takes time and, as such, you may only see the true results after around three months from the treatment. However, if you combine your professional treatments with at-home treatments every 3-5 days then chances are you will start to see the improvement in your skin earlier than if you simply left the time between treatments.
You should avoid getting skin-needling if you suffer from eczema, sunburn or hypersensitive skin. Contact us today for more information.
